Fostering climate compatible development
In developing countries economic growth almost always trumps climate change mitigation. While this is understandable, wouldn’t it be better to combine the two?
The Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) have been working for the last several years, hosted by PwC and with funding from the British and Dutch governments, to support decision-makers in developing countries in designing and delivering exactly that approach what is called ‘climate compatible development’.
CDKN provides research, advisory services and knowledge management support to help local leaders to create policies that are appropriate for their current and future development goals. They work in partnership with decision-makers in the public, private and non-governmental sectors nationally, regionally and globally. And I’ve had the pleasure of working with the CDKN leadership team to use Collaborative Advantage to support the development of their growth strategy.
While researching for my upcoming book I’ve been increasingly fascinated by the observation that the greatest problems facing humanity, such as poverty, climate change, political violence, or mass migration, may ultimately depend above all on our capacity for cooperation. This has the potential to make our ability to create Collaborative Advantage the most strategic asset we may have as a species.
